Monetize Your LinkedIn Contacts

❏ Last week I spoke on Increase Internet Sales With Your Blog!(LINK). This week I’ll speak to Monetize Your LinkedIn Contacts. Most of us think of LinkedIn as a place to go find a white-collar job. What many of us don’t realize is that it can be a great place to market your product or service. However, marketing on LinkedIn must be done right way or you will end up annoying LinkedIn followers. Ready to learn how? Let’s get started!

As an Executive Coach, I help founders find the right kind of help at the right time. Most early-stage businesses, what we call the “Build Stage” business, have many serious challenges. One of these is what we call “Discovery.” Last week I taught you how toMaximize Your Blog Post Reach To Make More Sales!(LINK). This week I’ll teach you how to Monetize Your LinkedIn Contacts. Your LinkedIn contacts are often your most valuable list of potential clients. Without knowing the secret I’m sharing today, getting your email list out of LinkedIn can be a challenge. LinkedIn makes the process easy, but a bit hidden. Ready? Let’s get started!

Step 1: “Login” and click “Me” under your image.

1A starts with logging/signing into your LinkedIn account. Once signed in, look for your image icon in the top right corner and click on the “Me” down arrow.

1B: A drop-down window appears. Look for “Account” heading, then click on “Settings & Privacy.”

Step 2: Select “Account” & “Download Your Data”

2: A new screen appears as shown above. Find “Download your data” and click on it.

Step 3: Create & Measure Social Media Campaigns

3: A new screen appears as shown above. Highlight the “Account.”

3A: Click on the circle next to “Pick and choose.”

3B: Next click on the button labeled “Request Archive.”

Step 4: Confirm Download by Entering Password

4: The “Request Archive” button will gray out, and a small popup window appears.

4A: Enter your LinkedIn password in the box.

4B: Next click on the “Done” button.

Step 5: Download Occurs in About 10 Minutes

5: The title of the “Request Archive” button will change to “Request Pending” and gray out. At the top right of the screen, you will see “Download pending” under the “Close” button.

In about 10 minutes (can be longer) you will receive the download of your LinkedIn contacts.

Step 6: Check For LinkedIn Email

6: After about 10 minutes, check for an email from LinkedIn similar to that shown above. Click to open the LinkedIn email.

Step 7: Open the LinkedIn Archive Data page


7: The content of the LinkedIn email will look similar to the above image. Click on the blue text “download it with this link” which will open a new window as shown in the next step.

Step 8: Download the Archive

8: The LinkedIn Download Your Data page opens. At the top right under the “Close” text, you will see the message “Download Available.” Grayed out you will see your prior selections. Click on the “Download archive” button.

Step 9: Download Occurs in About 10 Minutes


9: The title of the “Down Archive” button will gray out. Your browser will indicate that a file is downloading. It should take under 10 seconds for most files to download

Step 10: Download Occurs in About 10 Minutes

10: Open your file tool on Mac or PC. Look for the file named “” Unzip the file (usually by double-clicking on the file name). A file with the name “Connections.csv” should appear in your file tool. I into your Email Campaign Management Tool (ex: MailChimp, Open “Connections.csv,” and you will see contents similar to below. The file contains First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Company, Position, Connected On (Date) and Tags. These are the only fields LinkedIn provides. The person’s image is NOT included in the download list.

The more money that rolls in, the more you will invest in more campaigns. Eventually, you’ll hire a part-time, then full-time, social media manager to create, manage and report on all these campaigns.
